Soreti Kadir, Sigrun Mikula, Ania Walwicz

Being of Oromo heritage but having spent most of her life living in Melbourne, Soreti Kadir is committed to cultivating the power of the African diaspora through her work as one of the Co-Founders and the Directing Manager of In Our Own Words; an NGO focused on self-awareness, de-colonial thinking and community empowerment. Soreti's expression as a spoken word artist and an emerging writer encompasses her passion for critical thinking, the strengthening of the African diaspora and community engagement.

Sigrun Mikula is a writer from Canberra, now based in Melbourne. For her writing is a process that helps her understand the world and her experiences. Sigrun is enjoying exploring poetry as a medium that combines writing and performance elements to share her stories with others.

Ania Walwicz is a poet and spoken word artist who teaches at RMIT. Her published books include “Writing,” “Boat,” “Red Roses,” “Elegant” and “Palace of Culture.” Her current work is “Horse” a book/theatre text/ multilevel opera.

Melbourne Spoken Word is a website and arts organisation with the goal of supporting spoken word and poetic performers and events around Melbourne, Australia, especially the live spoken word and poetry scene. Melbourne has a vibrant culture of poetic performances, open mic nights and poetry slams, most of which is not widely known about in mainstream media. Its goal is make spoken and poetry visible in this city.
